Auxilliaries

Queries #13

Stuart Peachy

Who and what were they? Thousands from London, organised into regiments, fought alongside the Trained Bands but were carefully distinguished. 2,500 served, from Sussex Essex and Norfolk, at the last siege of Newark.

Bristol increased its Trained Bands from 3 to 4 companies but had thousands of Auxilliaries. Probably tens of thousands fought in the War, yet almost nothing is known about them. What do you know?
