And Even More Good
Figure Information

By Brian L. Robinette

Received an e-mail the other day from Brian Robinette complementing us on the first part ofRobert Burke's article on where to find Ottoman figures. As it compliements both that article and Burke's second part, which is running in this issue, we thought we'd share it with you.

Rank and File Miniatures produce a decent line of Ottomans for the 1840-1918 period. The infantry with fez resemble descriptions of the Nizam-i Jedid from 1794-1808, though I think the headgear to be a little small and the coat to be cut a little short for Napoleonics. They are available from 19th Century Miniatures with the BH Line.

Chariot Miniatures has a very nice line of French Revolutionary figures available. They are on the small size for true l5mms and do not mix well with the new Old Glory and the new Battle Honors/AB lines (though older OG/BH/AB figures mix fairly well. They are round sculpted much like Minifigs, but generally have more and clearer detail than the Minifigs line. They are made from a lead/tin alloy and tend to be a little on the brittle side for malleability.

Falcon Figures (US) makes a very nice figure as well. I have not seen their Ottoman figures, but the French I own are very well done. They are between Minifigs and Old Glory in height and tend to be on the stout side, though less so than Essex's well-fed hordes. They are made of pewter alloy, but are generally free of slag and burrs, making figure prep easier.

They also offer a splendid custom-design service that is quite a bargain. You may give them as much or as little detail infonnation as you wish and un 4 to 8 months you will have your figures designed, plus a bag of the first runs from the molds!
