Khalkin Gol 1939

Soviets vs. Japanese

Japanese Briefing

Japanese Briefing and Troop List

Background: In the summer of 1939, the Japanese Manchurian Army attempted to "adjust" its border with Mongolia in a disputed area between the town of Nomohan and the Khalkin Gol River. As part of this operation, your command has been sent forward to occupy this area, and so you have taken up a position on the eastern bank of that currently dry river.

Your troops are holding one of the most desolate spots in the world, and you are having trouble just bringing your troops up to the front, and keeping them supplied with food and water. Attempts to entrench have failed due to the fact that the soil is so dry and timber so scarce, that the entrenchments fill in as soon as they are built. For game purposes, your stands will count as emplaced, and in cover only for purposes for spotting and small arms fire.

Your command has been reinforced with an armored regiment as it is reported that the Soviets are about to launch a major counteroffensive to push you back. Your task is hold the front. Air cover may be available, but it will be limited as losses for this campaign have already been higher than excepted. The Soviets have the same problems that we do in terms of keeping their men supplied at the front, so any counterattack is expected to muster at best one to two tank battalions, two to four infantry battalions, and supporting artillery. Headquarters feels that your current force should be able to deal with its attack, and force it back with heavy Soviet losses.
