Avalon Hill has apparently been feeling much the same frustration with Origins that miniatures players felt some years ago: lack of control of the events they were sponsoring, shifting of the focus of the convention to other aspects of gaming, notably role-playing, and a general impression that they were being ignored, if not squeezed out. Having noted the success of the HMGS miniatures conventions, they have decided to follow their lead, declaring that wargaming (on boards, of course), is not dying out, it just isn't being given a chance to grow. AH is following HMGS to the Penn Harris Inn near Harrisburg, where they will put on their own convention, devoted to their wargames, featuring more than 20 tournaments. They are also following the single entry fee format, with no game fees. Those of you who wish to push around pieces of cardboard undecorated with painted castings (you know who you are) may want to keep August 23-25 open. Check AH's General for an announcement of pre-registration. Courier Dispatch News of The Hobby
