Peter Gilder has come out with a line of figures for the Italian Wars of the Early Renaissance/Late Middle Ages. Peter's latest incarnation comes as the Connoisseur Range. He was, as many of you know, the chief designer of Heritage Figures. These figures are the large variety of 25mm. The range currently has 19 foot and 11 cavalry available, representing the Swiss, Spanish, French, and Italian City States. Each figure in the line comes in several variants. For those of you who are familiar with Mr. Gilder's work, these are typical of his offerings. For those of you who have not seen a Miniatures Wargames, or are otherwise unfamiliarwith hiswork, Peter Gilder is best known for perhaps having the best animation in figures. The soldiers explode with movement. The clothes and armor hang as if worn in the middle of a campaign. To achieve this effect he sculpts in an impressionistic style. As a result, features are exaggerated to bring outcletail. This will give the unpainted figure an almost cartoon quality. The final result, when painted, however, is the aforementioned animation. Whether you happen to like this effect is a matter of taste. I do. But I recommend that you take a look at his figures before making any large purchases. These figures are available from Kieth Leidy, at Connoisseur Figures, U.S.A., 2625 Forest Glen Trail, Riverwoods, IL 60015. More Reviews
