RAFM

25mm Flint and Feathers

By Ken Bunger

Produced by RAFM, 19 Concession St., Cambridge, Ontario, Canada NIR 2G6. Who was it that said... "to boldly go where no man has gone before"... well, I guess it really doesn't matter, and I probably misquoted him anyway. But you have got to hand it to RAFM. While most companies are busy copying the competition or finding some new way to rejuvenate the English Civil War or send Napoleon into the breech one more time, RAFM does the improbable, but with considerable flair. I don't know if their latest releases will make an impact on the buying public, but they certainly deserve some consideration.

RAFM has released 13 new figures focusing on the French and Indians Wars. Included are two additional Indians (Miami and Potawatomi) armed with muskets plus various Rangers, settlers, and personality figures all critical to a good skirmish game in the period. They are all well researched and are very, very clean in their execution. This cleanness of casting and sculpting insures an easy paint job. The positioning of the figures is somewhat unimaginative but will work nicely on a wargaming table.

These figures are quite nice but the Goreham's and Roger's Rangers (IN-21 and IN-20) are especially nice being well proportioned with fine detail. I do have some problems with the positioning of the arms on Coureur de Bois (IN-18) but that criticism is a minor one.

Finally, two more serious criticisms. First, at $1.25 the single figures are a bit on the expensive side. Second, there should be a number of figures added to the line. How about both French and British infantry in frontier dress with the appropriate officers? This is not to suggest developing an entire SYW line or a multitude of figure types; just one or figures to give a game more versatility.

Aside from the above suggestions these figures are a great idea and should give the gaming community another option for the small skirmish game.
