25mm Medieval

review by George Schneider

RAFM of Canada has produced a range of medieval figures to fill the heavy plate gap at the end of the medieval and the beginning of the renaissance periods. Called "Paladins and Plate", this range comprises thirty- two sets organized in packs of six/foot, three/mounted and four/command. Figures are sculpted in true 25mm scale and are free of flash. The diversity of army appearances in this period is nicely reproduced here through individually molded and posed figures and the issue of separate weapons in several sets. There is also a sufficient amount of detail to bring out highlights in the plate and mail of each armored figure. Samples received did not include unarmored figures, so no similar description could be made for light troops. Figures are anatomically correct, though poses are mostly rigid and lack animation. The exception here is the unbarded horse which is highly animated though a bit slender. I especially liked the detail on the caparisoned horse which should yield a most impressive painted figure. Rafm miniatures are produced by Rafm Company, I nc., 19 Concession Street, Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA and may be found readily in wargaming shops in the USA.
