Colonial Era Wargame Rules

An Overview

review by Paul Koch

I have recently received a copy of Table Top Games' Colonial war game rules. They are quite different from the set which I mentioned in this article. Watch for a review of this new set of rules in a future issue. Also, please add the following set of rules "Victorian Warfare 1845-1905" by Tony Charles. I have not seen a set yet, but shall endeavor to get a copy. and review. If you are interested, they are available from the author at 43 Durham St., Aro Valley, Wellington, New Zealand The cost is NZ$7.50 plus NZ$4.00 for Air or NZ$1.50 Mini Figs 15mm Colonials

The rumored Mini Figs 15mm Colonials have made their appearance, and this reviewer is quite impressed! By the time this review is in your hands, at least 34 different packs of Colonial figures for the Zulu, Egyptian and Sudan Wars will be on the market. Over 20 additional packs will be out to supplement the others this summer. The sculpting, animation and variety offered by MiniFigs is excellent. The Zulus, for example, have superb uniform details, shields and weapons. There is even an uDibi boy carrying sleeping mats! The British are offered in a variety of poses including standing, kneeling and prone firing, advancing, loading, running with rifle at trail, and marching. Cavalry includes (or will include) Lancers, Dragoons, Frontier Light and Natal Native Horse, and Camel Corps. Egyptian and Mahdist troops are also well represented. Perhaps the most welcome items will be the wide range of artillery offered; 7pdr, 9pdr and 13pdr RML field guns, 12pdr RBL field guns, a 2.5 inch mountain gun, a Krupp field gun (!) and Gatling, Gardner and Nordenfeldt machine guns! British (RA and RN) as well as Egyptian artillery crews will be available (I hope that there will also be Mahdist artillerymen!). Steve Carpenter of MiniFigs USA was not sure at the time I spoke to him, but he felt that probably NorthWest Frontier and Boer War figures will follow sometime this fall.
