Jack Scruby Fades Away

by Bob Beattie

Old Wargame Businesses Never Die, They Just fade Away

Jack Scruby, father of American Miniatures Wargaming and proprietor of Jack Scruby Miniatures, is beginning to fade from the wargames figure business. He says that his toy soldier business is doing so well that he does not have time to cultivate new customers and design new wargame figures. His toy soldiers and chess sets are currently marketed to some 400 stores and he has a steady flow of customers at his own shop in Cambria. He will no longer advertise his wargame figures in THE COURIER and elsewhere. He will continue, however, to honor requests for the wargame figures. He says that while he thought of selling the moulds, he prefers to keep in contact with his hold customers and will fill any orders that arrive. The turn around time will be a week to 10 days; one day a week is devoted to wargame casting. The current prices will prevail for as long as possible. it is just that with the limited space and high quality staff available, he cannot make money in the wargame area.

He is now very interested in the skirmish gaming concept and has a line of 40mm figures very suitable for such gaming. He will continue to sell his catalog and figures from it to any new person not just those who have ordered before. So if you do not yet have any Scruby figures in any of your wargame armies, order now. The catalog is $3.00. Jack's address is P.O. Box 1658, 789 Main St., Cambria, CA 93428. I am sure I speak for the many of us who got started on Scruby figures when I say that we are pleased that business is going well for Jack but we are sorry that no new figures will be designed and that the wargames business is melting away.
