by Charles Grant This book, published first before the author's death shows his passion for the hobby which first took root after WWII. Many must be familiar with Mr. Grant's battle problems that appeared in the pages of Military Modelling over the years. This book is written in the same friendly narrative style. The major tactics from Assyria and Classic Greece to the American Civil War was discussed through the medium of battle reports of games played in each period. The theory and application of Wargame tactics is nowhere near the detail you might expect from the title and would not interest the experienced gamer looking for new ways of applying tactics to the game table. It is, however, a great medium for introducing friends to the fun of miniature gaming and would serve as a good guide on how to set up wargarne problems to explore tactics of the past. Available from Hippocrene Books, Inc., 171 Madison Avenue, NY, NY 10016. Price is $14.95.
