Gatherings

New Con I Held

by Chris Parker

On November 10th and 11th, 1979, NEW CON I was held in the West Newbury Town Hall West Newbury, Massachusetts. The Convention was open to wargamers and the general public from 8:00 A.M. to Midnight. Over sixty participants registered for the weekend events and many others merely observed.

Each day was broken up into game periods of four hours length. During each game period persons could choose to play from between four to six games. Saturday had three such Bame periods while Sunday had two. The second Bame period on Sunday was open ended and lasted for at least eight hours. A prize was awarded by the Bame master in each of Sunday's large games.

Many different games in each of the major wargaming periods were held and the more popular ones were offered more than once during the two days of the Convention. The Convention proved to be so successful that the organizers will repeat their efforts at least twice annually.

From the News Desk

by Jerry Chaskes

With this issue I begin the task of compiling news of general interest to the hobby, digesting it and presenting it to the readers in a newspaper format. Accounts of Conventions Club Activities, new products and lines as well as media events are welcomed and encouraged. I also encourage reader feedback as well as suggestions for specific inclusion in this section and areas of news interest. Photographs (B&W) of any of the above cited events and activities are also needed.

By adopting this format, the publishers of THE COURIER intend to give its readers a single place within our pages where they can both learn of upcoming events and report on noteworthy happenings. I look forward to hearing from each of you and thank you in advance, for your help in preparing this section.
