Review:

Minifig

25mm Assyrian, Egyptian Bowmen

by Rob Mosca

We have just received the first 25 mm. figures in Miniature Figurines Ltd.'s (Box P, Pine Plains, N.Y. 12567) long awaited Egyptian and Assyrian range. The figures submitted for review were all archers; four Assyrians, specifically, a light, medium, elite and a New Empire heavy archer. The other four were their varied opponents: Egyptian, Nubian, Hittite and Syrian archers. Al1 the figures are sculpted in the standard pose of "ready, aim ..." and are based on the illustrations in Alan Buttery's Armies and Enemies of Ancient Egypt and Assyria.

These figures reflect, admirably, Minifig's greatest strengths: historical detail and accuracy, consistency of anatomy and an overwhelming offering of subjects within each range. As to the figures under review, the Assyrian's have a slight edge in facial and body detail. the Assvrian elite archer and medium archer having a certain dynamism which should make them painting favorites.

The only criticism is the head-feather on the Egyptian archer, which is too top-heavy for the figure. Altogether though, these represent a fine start for what will no doubt be a highly popular range.
