Redoubt

25mm Napoleonics

review by William Keyser

Redoubt’s Napoleonic offering consists of a number of officer figures and French Lancers. The Lancers have very good detail on them including the sewing on the back of the habit-vest, the overalls also have very good detail and show the buttons along the side of the leg. One point that I really like is the fact that the lance is skinny, too often I see figures with what amounts to telephone poles for weapons. The horses, however, are not as well proportioned as others in their line, the heads are for the most part too small and give the figure an unbalanced look. The officer samples are for the most part good.

The ones I liked most were the figure passing a message to a dismounted aide and the officer leaning back on the horses rump. The personalities are disappointing. I think most gamers want their personality figures to be the highlight of their armies and should therefore be a cut above the “grunts” both in detail and animation. The figure that I am guessing is supposed to represent Napoleon looks nothing like the “big guy”, his torso is way out of proportion to the rest of him and the face does not look like nappy at all, the same can be said about the other personalities. The horses again suffer from the small head syndrome. The figures seem to be a 25M. The personality figures are $6.50 each. Having seen lots of the Redoubt ACW range I wish that the designer of that range would do the Napoleonic range. The figures are available from Miniature Service Center 1525 Bridge St. # 163 Yuba City CA 95993. (530) 673-5169.
