1/2400 WWII Ships

Reviewed by Jerry Lane

GHQ continues to add great models to its Micronauts line of warship miniatures. The latest additions to the Micronauts line of World War Two ships are GEN 17 BB Tirpitz and USN 72 CL Cleveland. The BB Tirpitz is Bismark's sister ship and is produced as it appeared in 1944 with increased anti-aircraft mountings. Sunk after only three actions, Tirpitz can still star in many an air attack or hypothetical convoy action. The Cleveland is part of a large class of light cruisers designed under the London Naval Treaty restrictions. The new model, USN 72, represents the first third of the class built with a rounded bridge. An earlier release, USN 13, covers the other 18 Cleveland's built with a square bridge. This is another example of GHQ's attention to detail, who else gives you multiple versions of the same class.

Both models come individually packed. The Cleveland costs $7.95 and the Tirpitz costs $10.50. This is a premium price but you get a premium model for your money. The castings are the usual GHQ masterpieces and are free of seams. The only cleaning is to remove a bit of sprue from some of the pieces. The package includes a diagram that shows where all the parts go. Both ships come with separate superstructures and turrets. Assembly is generally quick and easy, but care needs to be taken when fitting the secondary turrets and AAA mounts. Another great release from GHQ.
