For 24 years, the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design has been awarding the Origins Award for design and production excellence in the adventure game industry. The present chairman, Charles Ryan describes it thus: "The Hall of Fame exists to honor and preserve the history of adventure gaming and, in particular, those individuals who have made outstanding contributions and achievements in the development of adventure gaming and those games and products which have been particularly influential in the history of adventure game design and the adventure game industry and hobby". Various categories award Best Miniatures, Best Professional Magazine, Best Amateur Magazine, Best Miniature Rules, Best Role-playing game, best Play-By-Mail game, Best computer game, best Game-Related Fiction, Best Card Game and Best Board Game. All in the several categories - Historical, Science fiction or Fantasy. In addition to all of the above, the Academy elects people and products to the Adventure Gaming Hall of fame. Over the Years The Courier has won the award for the Best Professional Magazine many times - including 8 times in a row from its inception in the present format., splitting honors with The Dragon between historical and fantasy/role-play. This year, the Academy recognized that long string of successes by inducting us into the Hall of Fame. We find ourselves alongside such notables as: The Dragon, Diplomacy, Axis & Allies, Empire, Risk, Don Featherstone, Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, Charles Roberts, Frank Chadwick, Lou Zocchi, James Dunnigan and many more.
