Miniature Review
Regal Miniatures of Des Moines, distributor for Navwar's landing craft line, sent a copy of the US 80 foot ELCO PT boat for review. The ELCO was one of several different types of PT boats used by the US Navy during W.W.II. The line also includes seven types of Allied landing craft. Other entries are a German S-boat, British Vosper MTB, Soviet Type 1125 gunboat, and three types of Japanese landing craft. The ELCO PT model is cast in lead and is a very sturdy casting. The upper works, bridge, and torpedo tubes are already cast in place. The only assembly required is to glue on two twin .50 cal. mounts and the 20mm cannon mount. The biggest clean up job was a mold seam line that ran all the way around the hull. The model is 3 3/8" long and 5/8 " at its widest. The price for the ELCO is $10, this is at the top of the price range. The LCV is $2, with the average price being four of five dollars. For W.W.II coastal actions the Navwar range is a great choice. The 1/300 scale is big enough to be seen easily on the tabletop and not so big as to prevent getting several boats in on the same action. The range is limited at this time but it has enough choices that many interesting scenarios could be put together. Regal Miniatures has a catalog containing a wide selection of Ros, Heroics and Navwar 1/300 scale infantry, vehicles, and planes as well as the landing craft line. Orders can be mailed to Regal Miniatures 609 W. Euclid Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50313 or phoned in at 515-984-6470. Shipping is $3 for under $100 orders, credit cards accepted. - JERRY LANE More Reviews
