The National Board of HMGS in the person of the new National Director, Clay Smith is preparing to publish a list of gaming clubs in the US complete with contact persoms, gaming interests, etc. He asks that ALL wargaming groups that meet on a semi-regular basis contact him about their existence. They should come up with a clever name for their group and furnish a contact name, phone number, gaming location, and the periods wargamed. He will compile a list of these groups and distribute it to all HMGS chapter newsletter editors to be included as a permanent part of each chapter's newsletter. Mr Smith says that "The 'unauthorized' (i.e. not yet approved by the National BoD) Mission Statement for HMGS is 'HMGS exists to promote Historical Miniatures Wargaming by holding conventions and sponsoring educational activities. We will provide an effective means of communication among members and with retailers and manufacturers in the hobby through the local chapters' newsletters.' Futher, he states "Among the items that must be communicated to HMGS members are the locations of local gaming groups. This is crucial to successfully expanding our hobby." To start things off, I am enclosing a list of Wargaming Groups for the Tornado Alley HMGS newsletter. Some of these are shops that furnish gaming space, which is a great place to meet new wargamers. The Courier is glad to support this initial effort and we have added some other game clubs of which we are aware - see below. I believe that in the long run, however, this listing should be a separate HMGS publication available to all members at no cost (others would pay a fee). I envision several hundred listings. This will be too long to ask any club newsletter or commercial magazine to publish. More Courier Dispatch News
