Constantinople By Night is the first city book for Vampire: The Dark Ages. Set in 1197, this book covers the city long touted as the greatest gathering of ancients since the Second City. it covers its history since its founding by the Greeks up through the tumultuous Fourth Crusade with, of course, accent on the Cainite dealings therein. The city is laid out and described in sections, again with emphasis on the things of interest to Medieval Cainites. The Byzantine Empire is laid out as well, though not very thoroughly, unfortunately. The book contains vampires of note, Clan by Clan, along with their various groups, or families, which are not necessarily centered around Clans. The book is rounded out with a hand full of story seeds. Not every Kindred is given statistics, only the important few. Each alliance or group is given an overview of why it exists, its organization, its relations with other groups and its current concerns. I wish the map of the city could have been blown up perhaps quarter by quarter, as the simple line map in the back has at once too much detail and yet not enough. Its really just a bunch of lines and some numbers denoting which section you're looking at. I like the short descriptions of the less than really important characters there's enough detail to go on but not enough to take up lots of room. The same accolade goes for the story seed section, a format I have always preferred to the full blown adventure. Game Reviews Fantasy Role Playing
