Author: Phillip Katcher This hard-back 7 3/4" x 10", 160-page book is published by Hastings House, Publishers, Inc. of New York, NY, but printed in Great Britain. This work will be of greatest interest to miniatures wargamers and collectors as a source of information on uniforms and equipment of both sides in the French and Indian War, the American Revolution and the War of 1812. As such it would seem to be an excellent reference. Not being expert in the period covered I'm not qualified to judge the accuracy of the work. I only noticed one inconsistency; a caption identifying a picture as a British private of the 7th (Royal Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot of 1815 which is wearing a uniform that matches the description in the text of an American regular. Probably the most important section of the book will be that covering the American Revolution, what with the bicentennial and the general lack of wargaming in the French & Indian War and War of 1812. The former, by the way, might offer an interesting use for anyone's Seven Years War collection and the latter for Napoleonics buffs. They'd be especially suitable to 25 or 30mm figures due to the relatively small size of the armies involved. There are 100 full color paintings of uniforms in the work, along with about an equal number of black & white photos and drawings. Both sides of each of the three conficts are well covered, including AMR Hessians and Tories, except unfortunately, for a complete absence of material on the French during the American Revolution. The price of this work is $12.95 and, if you are in need of a source of uniforms information for the conflicts covered, it's well worth it. It's a very handsome volume and apparently well researched. It should be available from better book and hobby shops around the country. More Book Reviews
