The Battle of Glenshiel

10 June 1719

Introduction

by Derek Henderson

[We've played a few Jacobite Rebellion games at Southend (late Shoeburyness) Wargames Club and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed them. To the point where several members have bought or painted armies. The Scots tactics are painful if they don't come off but, if they do ... oh boy! I plan to try this scenario on the next occasion we get the Flower of Scotland (yes, I know it's the wrong period) out of their boxes - I'll let you know how it went.

Terrain can play an important part in battles. The following scenario should test the suitability of your rules to cope with battlefields which go beyond being "a snooker table with a few fences". - Ed]

Glenshiel was the only significant action of the 1719, that Jacobite rebellion which fell between the '15 and the '45 and is often (best?) forgotten, although it is sometimes seen as the final act of the '15.

It's not unreasonable to say that the whole futility and pointlessness of the rebellion is summed up in Glenshiel itself.
