The question was asked "I am interested in peoples opinions on
types of figures that are not produced or hard to find. What do people look
for but can't get?"
I know I'm replying to an old post, but, hey, it's been a while before
I could catch up on these game newsgroups again. =) Anyway, my old
answer used to be that I could always use "innocent bystanders" and
"superheroes", but I've since found sources for such figures - namely, the
Vampire: The Masquerade figures for "normal people", and Lance & Laser
sells a few superheroes.
As a sideline, I hear that some company has released some new
Champions superheroes miniatures? Does anybody have any info on this?
But back to answering the question, here are just a few things that I
would be interested in finding, if I don't get around to sculpting some myself
- Medieval "normal people". Peasants, barkeep, barmaid,
blacksmith, townspeople, farmer, maybe some street urchins or kids. I've
been working on a bunch of buildings, facades and props for a medieval
town for an upcoming Fantasy Hero campaign, and it'd be nice to have
some people to put in there other than just guys in armor and barbarians
with battleaxes.
- Modern or futuristic bike/rider/standing-figure combinations. I've
often seen for fantasy figure lines (such as by Metal Magic) blister packs
that contain a horse, a riding figure, and then a standing version of the
same figure. These were awfully nice to have for a previous Fantasy Hero
campaign I was in, so I didn't have to do heavy kitbashing for all of the
PCs. However, it occurs to me that it might be nice to have something
similar for bikes for a cyberpunkish campaign or contemporary setting. I've
seen a few motorcycle (and hoverbike) miniatures available (the "Nomads"
set from the Cyberpunk miniatures, and a couple of biker sets from
Grenadier's "Future Warriors", plus the "Grave Bike" rider from Rafm's
Traveller series) but there's no accompanying figure for if the character
should ever come into play OFF of that bike. The "Nomad" bike for
Cyberpunk is particularly annoying, since the blister pack DID come with
another figure ... just an entirely different one ... and the rider was FUSED
to the bike. (That removes the option of just using the bike as another
vehicle to stick in the parking lot, without someone already sitting in it
permanently.
- A drummer. I've seen plenty of Cyberpunk guitarists, and in one
campaign I even played a Rocker, but there was no way to handle getting
any figures for my band. =P The closest I might get would be to order the
"Grateful Undead" kit from Ral Partha. =) Anyway, it just seems that all
the musicians in the world of miniatures Cyberpunk play guitars, and
nothing else...
- Modern-day cops. The only ones I can find for "cops" are from
the cyberpunk-type series. Future Warriors' cops look like "der
commissar", and the Cyberpunk cops look like Judge Dredd wannabes. The
"Vampire Hunters" pack from Ral Partha's Vampire line has a couple of
figures that would do well for detectives (a woman holding up a badge, and a
guy with a small revolver), but that's about it.
