HMS Nelson, Portsmouth, Saturday 12 September 1998.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of the Nile, The Nelson Society, The 1805 Club and the Society for Nautical Research, in conjunction with the Royal Navy, are holding The Nile Campaign, a one-day conference at the Victory Club, HMS Nelson, Portsmouth. Naval and military historians plus Nelson specialists, including Brian Lavery and Michael Duffy, will present and discuss current thinking on different aspects of the Egyptian campaign, including the Battle of the Nile and its aftermath.

The conference will be chaired by Colin White, Deputy Director of the Royal Naval Museum, Portsmouth. Expected guests of honour include Admiral Sir John Brigstocke (the Second Sea Lord and Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command), and the French Naval attache to London.

The total fee for the conference including morning coffee, lunch, tea and the cocktail party on the lower gun deck of HMS Victory is £ 45.00 (the conference is 130.00 per person, with the cocktail party optional at an extra £ 15.00 per head), and registration is at 10.00am.
