The Nelson Decade commemorates the major bicentenaries of Nelson's greatest battles and achievements, culminating in a grand international public celebration across the whole country on Trafalgar Day 2005. The Decade was launched in 1995 by the Official Nelson Celebrations Committee (ONCC). In 1997 its members supported major international events celebrating the Battle of Cape St Vincent and Nelson's ill-fated attack on Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The committee represents a body of organisaLions with a special interest in Nelson and Britain's period of naval ascendancy. Members include the National Maritime Museum, Royal Naval Museum, Flagship Portsmouth, HMS Victory, Monmouth Museum, Lloyds Nelson Collection, The Society for Nautical Research, The Nelson Society and The 1805 Club.
