Chasseurs a Pied

The Chasseurs were uniformed in a very similar fashion to the 1st and 2nd Grenadiers, so only the differences will be described.

Uniform

The white lapels and scarlet cuffs were pointed rather than straight cut. The turnbacks were decorated with horns on the two outside, and with grenades on the two inside ones. The epaulettes were green with a red crescent up to 1808, and a green strap with red fringe afterwards.

Headress

The chasseur's bearskin was similar to that of the grenadiers but had no front plate or cloth patch. The plume was scarlet over green. The cords were white for chasseurs and mixed green and red for junior NCOs up to 1806 and with gold flecking afterwards. The bicom pompon was also parti-coloured.

Equipment

Again, very similar to the grenadiers, with the sword knot having a green strap and scarlet knot up to 1805. After this date, the strap was white, the knot green and the tassel scarlet. The greatcoat was piped from around 1813.

Veterans

The Veterans wore Grenadier uniform with red lapels and blue cuff-flaps, or the surtout, with a bicorn. The Dutch Veterans wore the white surtout.
