1. Obtain a suitable base material. I prefer the stiff plastic used in 3 ring binders as sheet separators, but metal, cardstock, thin wood, and other plastic may instead be used. 2. Cut the base into various sizes of square or rectangular fields. Other shapes may be cut as desired. 3. Completely cover the base with Helene's craft glue or other flexible glue. 4. While the glue is still wet, hand place small bits of Woodland Scenics medium or coarse turf. I tend to make each field consistent and not blend colors. Completely cover the surface and apply a light weight overnight while the glue sets. Various shades of green may be used, as well as browns, tans, and yellows. 5. Other options include using spices from the kitchen spice rack instead of the various shades of foam turf. Coffee grounds may also be used, as well as dirt. 6. Effects can be created such as plowed fields by beading the glue in parallel stripes after the base coat has been dried. 7. Hand-made worm fencing if desired may surround the fields. If so, leave enough room on the base for the fencing, and construct the fences as per the previous instructions. That's all for this edition of The Budget Wargamer.
