1. Obtain thin flexible polystyrene sheets from a craft store. As an alternative, any flexible plastic may be used such as the clear sheet protectors from a notebook. 2. Cut these into strips that are 1" wide by 12" long. Cut others into 6" strips. Curves may also be cut if desired. 3. Paint the strips brown using a flexible craft paint such as Wal-Mart Apple Barrel colors, and while still wet, apply a heavy layer of Woodland Scenics or similar fine brown turf. Very small rocks may also be added to the mix. Allow to dry. 4. When dry, shake or tap off the excess turf material. 5. Using a very dull Sharpie or similar permanent marker, draw in ruts and wagon wheel marks. I usually do two parallel lines using short choppy strokes. The Budget Wargamer Terrain Tips
