16. H.G. Walls at the Griffon

121 W. Colfax Street, South Bend, Indiana 46601 [PH: 219- 287-5533] SYWA member Herb Gundt writes to inform us that he is now the US distributor for Elite Miniatures . See Herb's advertisement in this issue for more details. He also advises that designer Peter Morbey will be releasing the first items in a line of SYW Prussians in time for the Cold Wars convention in March 1995. Herb has lowered the price of these 25mm figures, in relation to what the former distributor charged, so now foot figures are $1.10 each, horses are $1.45 and artillery pieces are $5.50 each. Discounts are available at 5% on orders over $100.(X) and 10% on orders over $200.00. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

Herb is still actively producing a plethora of custom-made buildings and scenery items for wargamers. If you attend this year's SYWA convention, you can see some of his buildings on Mike Schundler's and my wargames, plus Herb may have a few items in stock to sell "off the shelf'. Mike and I are commissioning Herb to build a replica of the Hochkirk church in 25mm. Anyone else interested in a model of the same should contact Herb Gundt at his workshop phone (219) 299-0352 6PM to 10PM E.S.T.

17. Front Rank 25mm SYW Prussians

has recently released some new items to their line of Prussians, including GP5 Frederick the Great, von Zieten, and two other generic Prussian staff officers, all dismounted. This pack costs $5.00 and is very appealing. Fritz stands holding a cane in his right hand while he rests his left hand on his hip and looks as if he is about to give someone a stern dressing down;the Zieten figure may actually be generic, but wears a mirliton and has his pelisse on and buttoned close; a third officer stands wearing a cap and tricorn with hands and arms covered by the cap; the fourth officer is bowing and doffing his chapeau, probably in deference to Alte Fritz. One could make some exquisite command stands using these figures, perhaps the hussar could be used as a horse-holder for the staff group.

Other new Front Rank Prussians submitted for review include three new infantry poses: standing firing, standing at the ready and march attack without field equipment. All three poses are available as musketeers, fusiliers and grenadiers or bareheaded. All are highly detailed; for example you can see individual hairs in the soldiers' wig curls and moustaches, buttons on the cuff lace and on the leg gaiters and the faces all look very Prussian-like. I really like the standing firing poses (SYP-29 Musketeer; SYP32 Fusilier; SYP37 Grenadier; and SYP38 bareheaded) They would make a terrific looking firing line and hopefully Front Rank will add some kneeling figures to form the Front Rank of the firing line [ouch!]. New cavalry figures include Prussian Cuirassiers (SYPC25 sabre up and SYP26 sabre arm outstretched - arm is too long, both figures are a bit too chunky for my taste); Prussian Hussars with sabre at rest, both are nice figures: SYPC27 Fur Busby and SYPC28 Mirliton. A new mounted personality figure is SYPP4 Ferdinand of Brunswick shown waving his tricorne over his head, extremely well-detailed and looking every bit the part of an inspiring leader. Then there are three new foot officers: SYP40 officer waving hat in right hand and holding spontoon in left hand, this is one of the best figures in the new batch with lots of animation and life to it; SYP41 officer marching with shouldered sabre and hat lace; SYP42 similar figure only without hat lace. Finally there are the march attack figures without field equipment, SYP31 Musketeer, SYP34 Fusilier and SYP37 Grenadier. These figures should be the core of your Prussian battalions if you use Front Rank figures. They'd also make good AWI Hessians. Other than the cuirassiers which are a little too stiff, I would recommend any of these to those who build 25mm Prussian battalions.

18. Imperialist Enterprises 25mm Marlburians

c/o Bob Hagerty,227 N.2nd Street, Apt. G, Elkhart, Indiana 46516. Phone: (219-293-4398) Calls 4pm to lOpm e.s.t. Bob Hagerty introduced these figures early last year and I apologize for misplacing them and not reviewing them sooner. Bob writes that the figures are meant to be true 25mm figures that are designed to be compatible with Dixon, Wargames Foundry and Strategem lines.Three different sculptors started the line, so there is some variation in quality, but Bob has stuck with the best two sculptors to finish off the line. Some are cast with muskets, some require you to glue a musket into open hands. Since I'm not familiar with the period, I will send them to Charlie Sharp for a review in a future issue. On the whole, these are nice looking figures and are modestly priced at $0.85 to $1.00 per foot figure and $1.80 to $2.00 for mounted figures including the horse. Bob intends to cover the Marlburian Wars, the Great Northern War and possibly the Jacobite Rebellions with a line of 50 figures. A call or letter will get you a catalog of available figures.

19. Old Glory 15mm SYW Russians

Now Frederick really has something to worry about, hordes and bags of guys in green coats! The first seven bags of 100+ figures are as follows: SYRI Musketeers Defending w/command; SYR2 Musketeers in summer waistcoats(no jackets so these would be painted as red coats, giving your Russians a different look); both of the first two bags are shown in a porte arms pose; SYR3 Observation Corps Musketeers w/ command in marching pose; SYR4 Observation Corps Grenadiers in march attack pose-nice looking helmets/mitre caps; SYR5 skirmishers - note that I have not seen this bag, only the listing so I presume that it contains a mix of pandours and line infantry firing; SYR6 Line Grenadiers w/ command; and finally the artillery, SYR7 artillery crew with a lot of guns, including secret howitzers and other big and nasty looking gun barrels. This is a nicely sculpted addition to the Old Glory line. Packs are $18.50 for 100+ infantry or 50 crew and 12 guns.

20. Old Glory 15mm Austrians and Prussians

New additions to this line include SYA 11 Austrian Generals and Personalities and SYA-12 Austrian Musketeers in Firing Line. Also, SYP-10 Prussian Generals and Personalities and SYP-11 Prussian Firing Line. At last, someone has given us 15mm figures in a firing line of standing and kneeling figures, plus loads of officers. These look terrific, especially if you mount your figures in the only true way, i.e. two ranks deep. The Prussian personality pack include the usual "Bad Guys" such as His Royal Nibs Fritz, Zieten, Seydlitz and even the Old Dessauer who is bareheaded and has his hands clasped togeather in prayer per the picture of him at Kesselsdorf. Lots of nice accessory officers, standard bearers and aides de camp. I did not have a chance to break open the pack of Austrian Personalities (they have no personality as some wag said), but I did spy one interesting figure seated in a chair with one leg propped up, but I have no idea who he is supposed to be. Would be useful in a command stand diorama. You get 30 generals, etc including horses for $18.50.
