Several members have contacted me to inquire about the status of The Foundry's 25mm SYW line of Russian cavalry, artillery and assorted other bits and pieces that are required to complete the line. Those of us who have purchased mass quantities of Russians have been in a bit of a pickle over the last two years since the first of the Russians hit the market. Personally, I have ten battalions of infantry and a horde of Cossacks, but without the rest of the figures, I can't use this army in a wargame. i.e. no generals, no regular cavalry and especially, no artillery. I called the Foundry in early September 1999 to find out when these figures were going to be released. After all, I had received samples and reviewed the same in Volume X No. 4. I might add that I had a highly favorable impression of the figures and said so in my review. It's very painful to know that some great looking figures are just within our collective grasp, but are not attainable. It turns out that the sculptor needed a break from sculpting SYW figures and is working on the start of ancient Macedonians and Myceneans, or something of the sort. He has completed everything but the command figures and The Foundry is reluctant to release the cavalry troopers, etcetera until the sculptor has finished the command packs. I understand the thinking behind this decision, which is, more people will be upset that they have bought line troopers, but have no command figures; therefore why not wait until the line is complete. Perhaps a small trickle of letters will do the trick. Most assuredly 50 to 100 letters will get their attention. In the meantime, methinks that Old Fritz has been paying off the Foundry's sculptors so that his Prussians won't get mowed down by Russian cannister and shell.
