New Books from Pen & Sword

Napoleonic Newsdesk

by Paul Chamberlain

Recently published by Pen & Sword is Marching with Wellington: With the Inniskillings in the Napoleonic Wars by Martin Cassidy (Hardback, ISBN 0 85052 981 6, £19.95).

Drawing on primary sources, the author describes the campaigns in the Peninsula and later into France and thence onto Waterloo through the records of the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment. The diary of Lieutenant Charles Crowe of the 2nd battalion proves the most helpful and graphic but the records of others help fill in gaps. The result is a rich portrait of the period that brings to life the routine of every day campaigning, the hardships endured, the successes savoured and the disappointments and tragedies suffered.
