The Big Battalions organise large-scale 25mm Napoleonic games in the grand manner at the Recreation Centre, Crouch Hill, London N8. Everything is provided for the game; the terrain is set up ready for use; the scenario is prepared in advance, together with orders of battle, deployment cards and roster sheets; and rules, dice etc. and all the figures required are ready for the players. The rules used are the latest edition of In The Grand Manner, although other sets can be accommodated if play-ers wish. The playing area is up to 24ft x 12ft, and caters for up to six players per side. The games are umpired. They specialise in the war in Europe around 1805-1815, with over 7,000 troops available from the armies of France, Austria, Prussia, Russia and the minor states. Players must book in advance. The price is £30 (per person) for each one-day game and a deposit of £12 reserves a place. The forthcoming programme will include Austerlitz, Smolensk, Borodino, Dresden, Raab, Ligny and Lutzen.
