by Paul Chamberlain

Gregory Fremont-Barnes has sent details of this three-volume project to be published in 2006 by ABC-CLIO, a major US-based publisher of historical and reference works. The three volumes will consist of A to Z entries covering all aspects of the period, including commanders (both military and naval), events, institutions, nations, weapons, treaties and battles. This encyclopaedia will examine all sides of the conflict in detail. The work will also include a chronology and documents section. According to the information supplied by Dr Fremont-Barnes, those who become a contributor to this project will be paid by ABC-CLIO at the rate of $20 (US, or the equivalent in Pounds Sterling) for every 1,000 words written, and those authors who contribute extensively (over 2,000 words) will receive a free 3-volume copy of the Encyclopaedia. Author's names will follow each entry. If you are interested in this project, and would like to find out what subjects are to be covered, contact Dr Fremont-Barnes for a headword list (list of entries). Prospective contributors will be invited to select their preferences from this list, and subjects will be assigned according to the experience of the authors (a detailed CV is required). The publisher will deal with contracts, deadlines etc. The Encyclopaedia is being edited by Gregory Fremont-Barnes, whose publications include The French Revolutionary Wars (2001), The Peninsular War 1807-1814 (2002), The Fall of the French Empire 1813-1815 (2002) and The Boer War 1899-1902 (forthcoming, April 2003). He is currently co-editing the Encyclopaedia of the American Revolutionary War to be published by ABC-CLIO in 2005. The Advisory Board for the Encyclopaedia of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars comprises Dr David Chandler and Dr Charles Esdaile.
