‘While the 25th’s two musketeer battalions secured the Virére wood, the Fusiliers, led by Major von Witzleben, pushed a battalion of the Old Guard (probably 1/2e Grenadiers) out the Chantelet wood to the south of the village.’. A rather better dressed and equipped soldier, this man is wearing the regulation uniform of the Prussian infantry introduced in 1808. The uniform is unremarkable except for the white distinctives on cuffs and shoulder straps of IR2 (1st Pommeranian) and the madder-red distinctives of IR25 on the collar, which were added hurriedly. His musket is a Prussian Infanterie-Gewehr M1809, which would probably have been unusual in IR25. Hidden from view, is possibly an infantry short sabre but these were in short supply. He stands guard over a wounded subaltern of 1/2e Grenadiers à Pied. More Prussian 25th Uniforms Uniforms of the Waterloo Campaign
