Former editorial director at Arms & armour Press and Cassell plc, Roderick Dymott, has been recruited by Brassey’s, now part of Chrysalis Books, to engineer a revitalisation of that list. The man behind various important Napoleonic publications, including Philip Haythornthwaite’s The Napoleonic Source Book, has wide-ranging plans. He told me: The Brassey’s name has previously been best known for defence and technical reference publishing, and we shall not be ignoring that sector of the market, but the intention is to offer a much broader programme in the future and that will certainly include major new Napoleonic works and new reference series that will also include volumes of interest to historians studying that period. We shall be looking for new writing and research talent from around the world and are willing to consider proposals that represent substantial fresh thinking on the major Napoleonic topics or show a good awareness of how to communicate historical knowledge to new or existing students. There is definitely a pool of historical writing talent associated with First Empire magazine. If any author has an idea for a book and would like to discuss this with Rod, he can be contacted at rodd@chrysalisbooks.com or Brassey’s, Chrysalis Books plc, 9 Blenheim Court, Brewery Road, London, N7 9NY.
