Wargames Group

Napoleonic Newsdesk

by David Watkins

This group of Napoleonic wargamers was formed 15 years ago to deve1op en joyab1e wargames which reward the use of correct Napoleonic tactics. The aim is to provide realistic Napoleonic battles without too much paper work or complicated charts.

We meet each Tuesday evening at 7pm in a converted private garage with a permanent 12 foot by 6 foot table. All figures, scenery, and equipment are provided and there are no subscription fees. A small weekly charge is made for refreshment.

All battles are fought within a campaign setting, but members are not required to take part in the campaign if they do not wish to do so. The current campaign is set in Germany and Spain in 1813, and has been running for 18 months. During that time it has provided 26 wargames , each lasting 2 to 3 weeks.

Battles are fought in 25mm, 15mm and 6mm, depending on the size of the battle being fought. Each side usually consist of 2 to 3 players, each pair of players fighting their own mini game, with their own objectives, within the overall game.

Membership has now fallen to 5 players, and we urgently require one or two new members who are prepared to commit themselves to one night per week on a regular basis. No previous experience is required, other than an interest in Napoleonic wargaming.

If you live within travelling distance of Salisbury, and would like to know more, please ring Paul or Jan Leniston on 01722 324272.
