The meeting begins at 11.00am and promises to be a varied and interesting day. All are welcome.

Napoleonic Fair, Sunday 15 February 1998

This annual and (for the Napoleonic enthusiast) compulsory event will be held at the same venue (Royal National Hotel, Bedford Way, London), and will have 100 stands of anything to do with the period. There is a new feature for this event. There will be two lecture presentations:

Was Napoleon Murdered at St. Helena? by Dr Ben Weider, with an introduction by Dr. David Chandler. Chairman: James Opie, Editor, Military Book Club.

This presentation will examine how Ben Weider, founder of the International Napoleonic Society, researched and came to the conclusion that napoleon died by the hands of a poisoner. This is the first time that Dr. Weider has lectured in Britain.

Wellington: Did he trick the Prussians into fighting at Ligny? by Peter Hofschroer. Chairman: Dr. Paddy Griffiths.

Using evidence from previously unpublished archive material and private papers, Peter Hofschroer throws new light on the origins of the Battle of Ligny, 16th June 1815. Did Wellington deceive his Prussian allies into fighting in unfavourable circumstances.

The 1998 Napoleonic Fair promises to be better than before!
