Major Naval Book Project

Chatham Publishing have announced that they will be embarking on a major publication project for 1997-98. This will be a reprint of The Dispatches and Letters of Lord Nelson, the seven volume edition first published in the 1840s with notes etc., by Sir Nicholas Harris. These volumes will span the entire period of Nelson's distinguished career, and be an important addition to any library on the naval history of the Napoleonic Wars. The first volume will be published in September 1997, priced £18.00.

New Napoleonic Titles from Pen & Sword Books

In September they will be publishing Kincaid: Adventures in the Rifle Brigade, by Captain J. Kincaid, price £14.95. The following month will appear The Prince's Dolls: Scandals, Skirmishes and Splendours of the Hussars 1739-1815, by John Mollo, priced at £18.95.

Major New Work to be published by Spellmount

In early 1998 Spellmount will publish a new work on the Peninsular War, edited by Ian Fletcher. A number of authors have contributed chapters to The Peninsular War: Aspects of the Struggle for the Iberian Peninsula, these being:

  • Introductory Chapter: The War in the Peninsula by Ian Fletcher.
  • 'That Unlucky War': Aspects of the French Experience in the Peninsula by Philip Haythornthwaite.
  • Siege Warfare in the Peninsula by David Chandler.
  • Vermin, Scorpions and Mosquitoes: The Rheinbund in the Peninsula by Jack Gill.
  • 'Heroes or Villains' Revisited: Fresh Thoughts on La Guerrilla by Charles Esdaile.
  • 'Carrying on the War as it should be': Fraternisation by Philip Haythornthwaite.
  • Prisoners of War in the Peninsula by Paul Chamberlain.
  • Wellington: Architect of Victory by Ian Fletcher.
  • 'Keep Step and they cannot hurt us': The value of drill in the Peninsular War by Paddy Griffith.
  • Wellington's Fighting Cocks: The Portuguese Army in the Peninsula by John Grehan.
  • Wellington's Army: A Bibliographical Essay by Ian Fletcher.
