Portsmouth Central Library, Saturday 27 September 1997.

Each year the Central Library in Portsmouth is host to the Nelson Birthday Lectures at which subjects on naval history are presented to an audience of naval enthusiasts and researchers. The topics presented each year cover the entire history of navies (in particular the Royal Navy) up to the present day. The programme this year includes a number of Napoleonic subjects. The provisional titles are:

The Naval Mutinies of 1797 by Philip MacDougall and Ann Coats.

Bone, Straw and Paper: How French Prisoners of War occupied their time 1793-1815 by Paul Chamberlain. Commander Lionel (Buster) Crabb by Michael Kimber.

Sir John Jervis and the Battle of Cape St. Vincent by Clive Wilkinson.

There is usually a book stall at the event, plus displays by the 1805 Club and the Nelson Society. The full programme and booking form should have been published by the time you read this. If you would like a copy please contact me on the above number and I will send one to you.
