Maida 1806
Robert and I had today a very good game playing the historical; battle of Maida. The game used the BBB ruleset, which turns out to be an excellent ruleset even of a small affair like Maida. Even in this case the game feeling was right.
The French went for an allout assault to the british positions in high ground. They suffered a lot of casualties, mainly by fire, but with a smart attack on the rear, of the french horse Chasseurs, the leftmost British brigade was broken. In the center, two british regiments repulsed more than one attack by the best french troops, but the very last attack was too much for the 78th and 82nd, both fresh regiments that were just arrived from England with little experience.
At the end of the day the french won, holding high ground on their center and right, but the very heavy losses of about 50% of their units did not allow any pursuit of the enemy, which retired in good order back to the sea.
Overall a great game and chat over future projects, and as always warm hospitality from Robert and family.
