French and Austrian armies in 2mm, Italy 1796
Models are Cliff Knight (?) from the ’80s, a most welcome present from my friends Alberto, Riccardo and Marco. I painted them during last month and put on 3mm thick MDF bases. I believe that a thick base is necessary for 2mm, you need to grab the units in some way.
Compared to current figure sizes, I would call these figures 1mm, they are much smaller than Irregulars, you may compare the officer figures with the rest of the troops.
Assuming a battalion of average 600 men, on three lines it occupies about 150-160m (75-80 cm per man allowance).
A scale of 1/3000 allows a battalion in line to occupy 5cm. I chose this scale because the Knight half-battalion bases are about 25mm.
For my other projects using Irregulars models I will use a terrain scale of 1/4000, battalions in line occupy 4cm frontages.
Here are the full Lombardische Armee and Armee d’Italie! Photos following soon.
