Iron at Sea

Civil War Naval Gaming

Scenario 2

by Jim Zylka

Scenario 2

This scenario was originally part of a naval campaign and takes place on the Mississippi River on 1862, near Vicksburg. The Federal fleet has contacted and is engaging the Confederate River Defense Fleet.

The outgunned Confederates have to rely on their ram tactics to carry the day. Federal forces are out to eliminate the River Defense Fleet, so they can only win a major victory by sinking three of the four Rebel rams. If any Union ships are sunk, the entire Confederate force, with the exception of the Arkansas, must be eliminated. This victory condition must be met by turn twelve or the Rebels have a minor win. Only fouled wooden vessels may board.
