Miniature World Maker

Terrain (2)

Review by Curt Campbell

Those who may remember, I reviewed a couple of samples from MINIATURE WORLD MAKER in issue 49. James and Pat Mason continue to expand on their excellent range of rubber-formed terrain and have sent along a Timber Fortification, a Field and a Canyon.

A few of the great things about all of Miniature World Maker terrain is that it comes painted and flocked, is incredibly tough, and is very lightweight.

The 15mm Timber Fieldwork (F3-2c, $4.55) is very well done, giving that nifty illusion of being a trench by building up the front of the work. The logs are distinctly detailed, the texturing good, and the colours vibrant. Front and back views shown at right.

The Canyon (A35a, $9.10) could be used with any scale - its either a big canyon or a small ravine. I find that it has a very graduated central contour so it blends in with any surrounding terrain without being too jaring. The boulders have a nice colour tone as well. Highly recommended if you are like myself and too lazy (I mean busy) to 'do up' your own terrain. Photo at right.

The 6/10mm Field (A15, 7 inches x 8 inches, $8.15) provides great texture to a game by adding rows of growing vegtable crop, a treeline and a low wall on three sides. I really like the earth-tones with this piece. Photo shown at the bottom right of this page.
