Orders of Battle: French and Russian
by Russ Lockwood
Special thanks goes to Dan Burkley for supplying the bulk of the troops, followed by Fred Stratton for a goodly number, and Mike Meusz for rounding out a few forces. Steve, Michael, Ed, and Umpire Russ (left to right) absorb the meaning of a modifer.) Artillery units are 1 stand. Infantry units are 2,3, or 4 stands. Cavalry units are 2 stands. The majority of the OOB info came from Chandler's Campaigns of Napoleon and Nafziger's Napoleon's Invasion of Russia. Of course, anything this size requires some "art" to be applied to the "science" of crafting OOBs. In most cases, it comes down to juggling the effects of divisional and corp assets. In some cases, it's adding or subtracting units as necessary to avoid confusion. For example, Doctorov and Davout are double size corps, the former because I rolled in a number of (small) Russian cavalry corps and the latter because he just had a large number of troops under his command. A little creativity is also good to foil all those commanders who load their encyclopedic knowledge into BrainRAM before the game starts. Change a name, add a new name, and shift units around to create more uncertainty.
