I read with interest Mike Lockyer's excellent item on converting the Airfix World War I German which appeared in the April issue, in which he Used pine for swords and scabbards. I have found flattening these rather tedious and believe I have a better method. The basic requriements for swords, sabres and scabbards are a box of paper staples (approximately 1s. -d. for 500) and a piece of sandpaper. I remove the short end pieces from a staple and sharpen the end of the long centre piece and I have a sword or scabbard ready to be attached to the figure.
