Collections Gallery If you want to see the bric a brac of the museum's 35,000-item collection, this is the place. It has all the odd things you might expect, or perhaps not expect, to find. The central piece is a 19th century Venetian gondola owned by Robert Browning. Although displayed in the Collections Gallery, this model of "the ship that never was" depicts a floating battery design circa 1905. A neat "ship that was never built" models shows a giant monitor meant to defend our shores during WWII. Like a porcupine with guns, this circular monstrosity was deemed too difficult to maneuver and keep steady. Various bells, fittings, furniture, and other items fill out the room. It is quite amazing the array of things behind glass. More of the Mariners' Museum
