Travel:
article and photos by Russ Lockwood
The Cathedral replaced a smaller church, the Church of San Jose, about two to three blocks north on Christos Street. We ambled up the hill to the Plaza, notable for its statue of Ponce de Leon. The Fountain of Youth must be south, for that is the way Ponce de Leon points. The Plaza was open, but the church, reportedly with a beautiful interior, was closed for renovation. In actuality, many museums and attractions were closed--February must have been the off season. Plaza San Jose boasted two museums closed for renovations. I guess not enough tourists visit the Museo de Pablo Casals or the African Heritage Museum to keep them open year round. Below, Alfred Lockwood stares at the statue. The Church is behind him.
