Using American troops from the Mexican –American War, you can create filibuster units. This would be especially true for the 15mm scale. In the 25mm/28mm scale either the Mexican –American troop types can be used or based on one illustration, the American infantry from the Seminole Wars with the leather cap can be used. In my opinion based on the time proximity of the Mexican War to the Filibuster actions, I prefer to think that more of the soft caps from that war would have been available in surplus than the more distant Florida War. Using Mexican troops with the tapered shako from the recent Mexican-American War you can create Spanish units, based on the regulations. Using this option, in 15mm the Musket Miniatures can be used or in 25mm several companies with troops from the Mexican-American War can be used. However based on the artwork, a more wide-brim floppy hat was worn, similar to that still worn in the Spanish –American War of the 1890s. In 15mm following the wide-brim hat variation, the Fantassin from the Spanish-American War could be used. In 25mm several companies offer troops in wide-brim hats that can be used. Spanish Lancers with wide-brim hats from several possible ranges can be used. Lopez's Filibuster Expedition to Cuba 1850-1851
