Many who paint native Nation castings often like to know what colors were the most common in a particular region of the country. In the Plains area, dyes and paint were made from processing minerals and plants. Common colors were yellow, red and gray-black (charcoal). White was available but is not mentioned as being used a lot. There is evidence of blue and green being available from copper ore but most cultural history of Plains tribes does not recognize their frequent use. Our Place in the Sun The Northern Great Plains
