July 25. BATTLE of IDSTEDT. A major assault by Danish troops (37,500) who attemptted to surround the Schleswig force. They advanced slowly with both sides suffering heavy losses. The Schleswig forces(26,800) were able to break contact and withdraw. The Danes suffered 3,700 casualties and the Germans lost 3,200 men. July 28. Near JAGEL, one of many skirmishes between Danish advance guard and Schleswig rear guard forces occurred. This was of several similar actions during the withdrawal. Two Danish Dragoon troops were attacked by two Schleswig Dragoon squadrons. A Danish Hussar squadron in reserve is committed to drive back the German Dragoons. Sept 12. Missunde. The Schleswig forces attempt to breach the Danish defensive frontier at Missunde. The German force was repulsed by the Danish 1st Bde with heavy casualties inflicted on the advancing forces by the Danish artillery support. Oct 4. Friedrichstadt. The Danish 3rd Bde (1,600 = 7th Lne Bn + 4th Reserve Bn + 8 guns) are in defensive positions when attacked by Schleswig troops (5,000 = 4 Bns + 10 guns + 22 mortars + 4 gunboats w/ 2 naval guns each). The S-H forces conduct a lengthy bombardment of the position before attacking. The combat is bitter as the larger S-H force finally force entry into the trenches. After heavy hand to hand combat among the trenches the S-H force retreated.
