Often the gamer of ancient warfare cannot relate to his lead soldiers since he cannot access the original sources that are used to formulate the rules he uses to recreate historical battles. What follows is an attempt to bridge that gap. These are translations of three ancient authors who wrote about Iphicrates the Athenian, the commander who regularized thepeltast and included it now as a force to be reckoned with in the Greek Military. Translations and interpretations are my own. All text taken from the Loeb volumes. Information appearing in () are additions by me to further explain the context of the text.
