Austria and Russia devoted a large percentage of their defense to protecting their borders with the Ottoman Empire. Although their organization and tactics were not regarded as the equal of their European adversaries, the Janissaries, Anatolians, Sipahis, and Mamelukes who fought for Sultan Selim III were fierce warriors who earned respect for their bravery. Napoleon encouraged the Ottomans to continue their war with Russia from 1806-1812, but Tsar Alexander was able to achieve a political coup in late May of 1812, signing a treaty with the Turks that freed an army of 60,000 men which would be needed against Napoleon's invasion less than a month away. The sample soldiers shown below are from Jacobite Miniatures' 15mm line of Napoleonic figures, with packs of 24 foot or 8 mounted command figures for $4.50 to $6.50 US per pack.
